Well, here is the latest news. Yesterday, I went to the Dr. for my 39 week check-up. My Dr. decided to do an ultrasound because my stomach is getting so large. During the ultrasound we found out that the baby is weighing in at 9 lb. 10 oz. (give or take a pound). Apparently my baby is very comfortable and enjoying the all you can eat buffet inside my stomach. I can not believe that I have a baby that huge inside of me! After finding that out, my Dr. recommended that I have a c-section instead of vaginal delivery because of the risks. So, we scheduled an appointment for 11 AM on Monday. For some reason I am having very mixed feelings about this and find the fact that I will be having a c-section a little scary. Maybe it's because I don't know much about them. All this time I have been reading everything and anything about vaginal births and skipping over the c-sections parts. Lundon and I also attended an 8 hour childbirth class where they probably spent about 20 minutes on c-sections. What a waste! So, my goal within the next few days is to find out everything I can about c-sections so that I will be fully prepared. Here are some things I have learned so far to keep me looking on the bright side:
- Babies that go through a c-section are not as beat up because they don't have to go through the birth canal.
- The baby will be out in an hour. This will be a lot more convenient:)
All in all, I am still very excited that our baby is on his way and that he will be here soon. I will try and post pictures sometime after Benson is born!

Oh how exciting! I totally KNOW what you are going through! Sorry if I bore you with this, but I had to have a c-section too! My doctor does an ultrasound every time, so the baby was measuring around 8 lbs at the last ultrasound. After a day's worth of laboring they finally decided to do a c-section so we could avoid complications. Dawson was 9 lbs. 9 oz. and 22" long - ya I was shocked!!! (I weighed 9 lbs at birth and Tim weighed 11 lbs 1 oz at birth - I should have known!) Dawson was also huge for a first baby. I think that's awesome that your doctor caught that early! I have to say I ended up loving the c-section route. I will most likely do it again with the rest of my children even if they are smaller! It is difficult recovery in a way, but it does have it's advantages. My favorite perks: the doctor suctions you out during surgery (which means you don't have to 'pass' as much junk),you maintain bladder control as the years progress, the baby won't come out buised and cone-headed, you can stay at the hospital with extra assistance a little longer, using the bathroom isn't as painful, you aren't expected to go back to church for a few extra weeks (just kidding, but it was nice to take it easy a little longer.) I hope everything goes okay. I can't wait to see pictures of your 10 pounder. Big babies are usually happier babies! Good luck!!!
Good luck Adrienne! Wish I could offer helpful advice but unfortunately I had to do the old school way :)
No worries Adrienne, it will go great! Just a little advice for afterwards...in my experience (I obviously have not had one myself, but taking care of women that have had a C-section-I've learned a little) be sure to keep on top of your pain medication, even if you are feeling "okay" they will ask "what is your pain level from 1-10, 10 being the worst?"-make sure you keep it at or below a 3 for sure so take what they offer you! Where I worked we liked moms to get up the first day and not stay in bed which means pain and being uncomfortable-it reduces the risk of many things which I will not go into, so just make sure you ask for pain meds before you REALLY need them, that's why we have drugs, right? Also, ask your nurse if there is a binder that is available for additional support to hold in what the doctors took out and to decrease pressure on your incision-my patients always found this more comfortable. Lastly, do try to get up the first day...it is not going to feel good, but the faster you get up and get going, the better off you will be later on, honestly and truly!! Can't wait to hear the news and to see Benson! Best wishes!
Thank you so much for all the input. I loved reading all of your advice! I really am feeling better about the whole thing. We just have 1 1/2 days left til he comes! I think it's starting to sink in for Lundon too.
Adrienne, I can see why you would be a bit nervous at first. I mean, after the two of us watched all those birthing videos, you were so pumped to have Benson vaginally. So, if you are really nervous, I can totally take a sick day tomorrow and cheer you on. J/K. I am excited to meet Benson. I will miss you so much at the Mansion. You'll have to bring him by. Ha ha. Go Gargoyles.. isn't that our mascot?
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!! I'm screaming I'm so excited for you...you have already had the baby by now. I can't wait to see him!!! Good luck with everything. I'll be thinking of you!!!
YIPEE!! Your baby has probably already arrived and I'm so excited for you!!! I can't wait to see him! I hope everything went well!
